The Golden Key

Character Insight from Spiritual Astrology...Kamala Harris

The 3rd Decanate of Libra (Libra/Gemini) — Lupus, Expiation or Atonement

It is Impossible for a Man to Injure Another Without Himself Being Injured, or for a Man to Benefit Another Without Himself Being Truly Benefited.

Keyword: EXPIATION, or ATONEMENT.

Lupus speared by Centaurus by Johann Hevelius
Centaurus Spearing Lupus, the Wolf
Johannes Hevelius, public domain

Some of the thirty-six decanates offer spiritual messages in the form of cautionary tales. Lupus, the cunning wolf, where the sun is found from October 13th to October 23rd is one of them. Here, Libra’s social nature is paired with sharp intelligence. The ancients chose Lupus to remind us that any gift—whether intelligence, strength, or social advantage—when misused to harm others, eventually backfires on the one who misuses it. Zain illustrates this message with the fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood and her encounter with the sly wolf—a classic "wolf in sheep’s clothing." Brilliant minds who, out of a lack of sympathy, use their talents to take advantage of or selfishly deprive others eventually meet with the Centaur's spear, as depicted in the constellation Centaurus, or with Little Red Riding Hood's woodman's axe. The point of this story is not to label natives of this decanate as exploiters but to remind us that when we use our talents for the greater good and in the spirit of Universal Welfare, everyone benefits.

How does this decanate apply to Harris’ life?

Spiritual Astrology teaches us that each soul comes into this life with a purpose and mission. Clues are found in the birth chart. One indication is found in the position of the Sun. The Sun rules the Power Urges where the Individuality is polarized. Harris’ Sun is in the 5th house. It is her dominant planet and is in the decanate of Expiation. Expiation is defined in Oxford Languages as "the act of making amends or reparation for guilt or wrongdoing; atonement." This means that making amends for and seeking accountability for wrongdoing is part of her spiritual DNA and a huge motivator in her life.

Hermetic Astrology teaches us that the environment into which we are born is not a coincidence. It is attracted by the magnetism of the Soul’s needs. Harris grew up in an intellectual, immigrant family within a supportive, tight-knit community in Oakland, California, where she learned to be a functional part of something bigger than herself. With parents who were civil rights activists, she was exposed to the ideas of social justice from the time she was a small child. She early learned that justice is not apportioned equally to everyone. It is an aspiration to be fought for, as much as it is a right affirmed in the Preamble of the Constitution. Her interest in becoming a prosecutor was flamed, if not ignited when she reached out to protect a high school friend who was being molested by her father. She approached her mother about the friend living with their family. Her mother agreed. Given her birth chart, it was a natural thing for her to do.

With her Sun in Libra, it was natural that she would develop intellectually and become socially astute. Her Power Urges are further strengthened by a Grand Trine between Saturn in Aquarius in the 9th house and her Gemini Ascendant. Adding to the power of her Sun, it forms a close opposition to the Moon in Aries in the 11th house, which is mitigated by Mars in Leo in the third house. Placed in the 5th house, Harris enjoys playing by the rules of fairness. Mars in the 3rd house and an Aries Moon make her a fighter for the weak and helpless. She credits Howard University, an HBCU and her alma mater, as a place of empowerment that instilled in her the values of leadership, service, and activism, while also reconnecting her with her cultural roots.

Harris’ quotes also illuminate how she embodies the spirit of expiation, particularly as it relates to her life's theme of social order.

“I'm a career prosecutor. I have been trained, and my experience over decades, is to make decisions after a review of the evidence and the facts. And not to jump up with grand gestures before I've done that. Some might interpret that as being cautious. I would tell you that's just responsible.”

“I was raised to be an independent woman, not the victim of anything.”

You have to see and smell and feel the circumstances of people to really understand them.”

“I often advocate that we look at many sides of an issue, walk in someone else's shoes, and identify and reject false choices.”

I just think it's so important not to take yourself too seriously.”

“A family looks for ways to support and inspire one another.”

“If we do not lift up women and families, everyone will fall short.”

“I love being in the courtroom.”

Libra: The 7th Sign of the Zodiac
September 23 thru October 23

“Not by One Alone May the Highest of All Be Reached, But by Two United Souls Who Are Exalted by the Sweet Reverberations of Holy Love.”

The Sign Libra

I Balance

Choosing the Thoughts and Emotions We Nurture and Harvest...

Every day, consciously or unconsciously, we make choices that impact the experiences we attract tomorrow.

Making good choices requires wisdom. Wisdom comes from finding the right balance between competing factors. What measurment do we use to find BALANCE? Libra, the sign ruled by Venus—the planet of love—teaches us that balance is found by considering which option offers the greatest love, kindness, and compassion.

A classic example of this principle in action is the story of King Solomon. Faced with two women claiming to be the mother of the same child, Solomon was tasked with deciding who the real mother was. Both made compelling arguments. After much thought, Solomon proposed splitting the child in half, giving each woman a portion. The true mother, filled with love, immediately offered to give up her claim to save the child’s life. Solomon, recognizing that love preserves rather than destroys, awarded her the child.

This story illustrates the doctrine that love is the foundation of life, both here and beyond. In later days, this truth was expressed by the Nazarene, who commanded his followers to "love one another." Our actions, judged by kindness and compassion, will be our greatest harvest.

The Autumnal equinox marks the Sun's decline and the shortening of days. The vibrant colors of spring and summer fade, and crops planted in spring have been harvested. In the solar cycle, it's a time to evaluate whether there’s enough food and shelter to survive the coming winter.

This season of reckoning in Nature aligns with one of the world’s holiest times, when various sacred traditions encourage reflection on the past year. Devotees are urged to weigh their good deeds against their shortcomings, assessing how they measure up to their moral ideals. It’s a time to restore balance by aligning spiritual aspirations with real-life progress. It's the perfect time to ask the question, “Did I love enough today?”

Mental Alchemy...

Prayer for Harmonizing Venus and Neptune Energy
Venus

For use at times when the Will is weak and healthy boundaries have been lost because of too much pliancy; during emotional and affectional crises; and/or, there is a tendency to be vague, negatively imaginative, and/or unduly sensitive.

Constructive Social Urges express as Affection asserted through strength of character, in companionship and social contacts, and in appreciation for the beautiful in life.

Constructive Utopian Urges express as Idealism and through the practical application and expression of the plans and schemes the imagination pictures.

O Thou Eternal Spirit, in Whom I live, move, breathe and have my Being! Aid me to attain calmness when emotion would threaten my poise. Aid me to be reasonable when I would feel hurt and unreasonable. Aid me to know that others will give love to me only as I radiate love to them. Inspire me to face reality courageously, confidently and calmly.

So Shall It Be!....

Astro-Tarot Series:

Arcanum III: Isis Unveiled

In Elbert Benjamine's classic series, he explains the astrological significance of the sign Libra and its relationship to Arcanum III, the tarot card relating to Marriage or Action.

How the Card Expresses restated from The Sacred Tarot in contemporary terms:

In the spiritual realm, ultimate power guided by constantly active intelligence and complete wisdom.

In the mental realm, it reflects the limitless potential of existence.

In the physical realm, it is Nature in the process of creation, where actions take root and grow from the intentions of the Will.

ADMONITION from The Sacred Tarot, restated in contemporary terms:

Keep in mind that when you commit to truth and fairness, you are already setting the foundation for their manifestation. On the other hand, choosing falsehood or injustice leads to self-destruction. If Arcanum III appears in your reading, expect success in your ventures—as long as you can combine creative action with clear, focused thinking to ensure your efforts are fruitful.

Why We're Here

light.org is an internet resource for those searching for true esoteric insight that can only come from combining the best of the past with the promise of the future. Here we try to avoid the dogma of material science, “new age” thought, or fundamentalist religious concepts, while adhering to the old axiom “don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.”

The Brotherhood of Light Lessons and the Aquarian Age

A new spiritual dispensation is at hand, where the love and compassion of the Piscean Age are enhanced by the wisdom that comes from a deeper understanding of the Nature of Reality brought by the new Aquarian Age and thus Religion is wed to Science. Our Brotherhood of Light lessons are the bridge that caries us into this New Age by combining the best of the Ancient Teachings with the wonders of our new discoveries. Nothing stays the same we must all adapt to the flood of new information.

Why Astrology and the Tarot are so important to understanding Traditional Knowledge

The word Kabala signifies traditional knowledge. It thus refers to the Oral Law, as handed down from antiquity; and embraces the occult traditions of all lands and all peoples. Often it is used merely as referring to the esoteric doctrines of the Jews; but in its broader sense it includes also the secret doctrine of other races. This secret doctrine, common to many lands, was jealously guarded from the profane, and was never permitted to pass into writing except in such ambiguous terms as to baffle the uninitiated as to its true purport. In this sense the sacred books of the world, including the Avesta, the Vedas and the Bible are largely kabalistical; for they set forth traditions that are capable of an inner, or esoteric, interpretation. In fact, there are usually several interpretations possible, each more inner version revealing a deeper truth to those who have advanced along the path far enough to comprehend it.

And this seems the proper place to point out that the unwritten kabala, like the written kabala, is set forth in symbolical language, with purposeful blinds and subterfuges to confuse the uninitiated; so that of the few who undoubtedly exist at the present day who have received it, most remain in as much ignorance of its true interpretation as the majority of students do after studying the more accessible written kabala. This unwritten kabala has been transmitted only through certain secret schools. Those receiving it well merit what is given to them. They are left to their own devices in the matter of interpretation. And because the real keys to its interpretation—astrology and the tarot—have been largely ignored, or distorted, they have floundered sadly in arriving at its meaning. Whether written or unwritten, the kabala is a philosophy correlated to esoteric astrology as exemplified by the tarot; and it can only be comprehended fully by those who perceive the true relation between astrological energies and their pictured tarot exemplification.
